Per Mertesacker open to DFB role amid leadership reshuffle | OneFootball

According to BuLi News, Per Mertesacker has said he would consider a role with the DFB if wanted, seeing it as a chance to give back to German football.

The 2014 World Cup winner spoke as debate continues over the federation's leadership structure, after the announced departure of sporting director Andreas Rettig and with Jürgen Klopp still linked to the head coach post.

Mertesacker recently stepped down as head of Arsenal's academy after eight years, ending a 15-year association with the club. During that period he was credited with steering the development of several young talents and shaping the long-term academy structure.

He stressed he is not planning an immediate return to administration, and will complete his ZDF punditry during the FIFA World Cup before taking a break.

There have been no indications of formal talks with the DFB, but the 104-cap former centre-back said he would make himself available should the right opportunity arise.
