According to O Jogo, a group of FC Porto members have launched a petition to expel Ricardo Costa, Sporting’s handball coach, from club membership.
The initiative cites article 32 of the club’s statutes and stems from his post-match comments after Sporting beat Wisla Plock 33-29 on Thursday in the first leg of the Champions League play-off for a quarter-final place.
His remarks came a day after André Villas-Boas, the FC Porto president, addressed what happened at Dragão Arena before the recent clássico, which Sporting won, including reports concerning the coach.
Costa said he does not accept attacks on his integrity and urged that what happened be investigated.
He added that he is neither police nor a public prosecutor and said his only certainty is that a health problem kept him out of the game.
