Piccinato calls for focus as Corinthians see off Santos in cup

Corinthians defeated Santos in the Paulistão Feminino and moved closer to qualifying for the knockout stage. As usual, the club released behind-the-scenes footage of the match, highlighting the words of Lucas Piccinato, who projected victories in the upcoming games to ease the atmosphere in the Libertadores.

“If we win the next two games, which are before the Libertadores, we secure qualification in the Campeonato Paulista. This way, we go to the Libertadores knowing that when we return, we will already be qualified. This gives us a more comfortable situation, as we will have resolved one of our problems. Then, we will return to resolve the others”, said the coach before the players went to warm up.

After winning the Brasileirão, Corinthians continued in the Copa do Brasil Feminina, and in about two weeks, the Brabas will start the Libertadores. Thus, Piccinato asked for attention as it is a first-phase game, right before the ball rolled.

“We are in a sequence of knockout stages, one after the other, fighting for our lives. We cannot relax. In this game, our bodies might naturally relax a bit, but they can't. It's a game that means a lot! It's a classic. No one will take away what we've built, and no one will disrupt the path we've been on in the second half of the year. If something happens out there, ignore it”, added the coach.

Corinthians had a somewhat uninspired performance but scored in the first half and secured a 1-0 victory, earning three more points. Now, the full focus is on São Paulo, for the Copa do Brasil, in a match that takes place this Wednesday, the 24th, with the opponent as the host.

“We have to work hard because Wednesday will be a battle, and you know it. It won't be different. When we play away, we always play very poorly. We have to work hard to have a great match. We have to play better than today to leave here qualified, with a happy face and congratulations for the result, but we need more, and you know it”, completed Piccinato.
