Piccinato on Juventude clash prep, full-back’s limited minutes

On the afternoon of this Wednesday, September 17, Corinthians and Juventude faced off in the round of 16 of the Brazilian Women's Championship. The knockout stage is played in a single match, which ended with a score of 3-0 for Timão, with goals from Vic Albuquerque, Ariel Godoi, and Gisela Robledo.

After the match, coach Lucas Piccinato spoke to the press, sharing a bit about the preparation for the game, three days after winning the Brazilian Championship: “Monday was a day of general hangover for everyone outside, we enjoyed at least 24 hours of a title. On Tuesday, we gathered the group. Our medical department did a very good job in understanding who was fit or not to be here today.”

He continued, explaining some absences among those listed this Wednesday. “Some athletes with a higher risk of injury, like the three: Nicole, Duda, and Thaís Ferreira. For us, it didn't make sense to push now and lose the girls for the rest of the season. And, like me, the decision to bring a group that didn't play is with the intention of putting players hungry to seek the game that we knew would be difficult and I think it worked very well”, he said.

Still on the subject, Piccinato spoke about the situation of Letícia Santos, who has received little playing time this season: “It has a lot to do with the good form of other players during the time we've been here. Last year, we had Isabela, who ended up having a very high playing time because she had a very strong season, consumed many minutes, and assumed a leading role within the team. And this year, Giovana took on a very high prominence and it turns out that the minutes are a bit more reduced.”

He continued on the topic, praising the athlete. “It's not about Letícia. Letícia has an excellent work ethic, she is a player who, besides that, during the season, she had some physical problems. Other athletes came in, embraced the opportunity, and are having the minutes that, suddenly, she could have. But she is a player that as soon as she is fit to play, I will always put her in, because I know she gives her all and has enormous potential”, he concluded.

The next game for the Brabas takes place next Saturday, the 20th, for the ninth round of the Paulista Women's Championship. Corinthians faces Santos at Fazendinha, starting at 11 am (Brasília time), and tickets are already on sale.
