Everton star Jack Grealish has admitted to being blown away by Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes, branding him an “unbelievable footballer.”

Fernandes ran the show as United eased to a 3-1 victory against Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

Casemiro opened the scoring when he headed home a sublime corner-kick delivery from Fernandes. Villa then levelled affairs through Ross Barkley.

But United weren’t about to let them draw confidence from their strike. They laid siege to the Villa goal, and unsurprisingly, Fernandes was at the forefront of it all.

The Portugal international brilliantly teed up Matheus Cunha, who produced an equally impressive finish to restore United’s lead. Substitute Benjamin Sesko then added a third to extinguish any hopes of a Villa comeback.

The two assists for Fernandes against Villa have taken his tally to 16 in the Premier League for the campaign. It means that he has surpassed David Beckham’s record of 15 assists in the Premier League for the club in the 1999/2000 season. Fernandes has also now registered a century of assists for the Red Devils.

He becomes the third United player in the Premier League era to reach 100+ goals and 100+ assists in all competitions.

Speaking to reporters after the final whistle, Carrick heaped praise on Fernandes and his understanding with Casemiro. Carrick also urged the football leadership group to keep Fernandes at all costs, amidst rumours that he could depart in the summer.

Grealish waxes lyrical about Fernandes

After the game, Grealish, who is currently on loan at Everton from Manchester City, took to Instagram and made it very clear how he felt about Fernandes.

The former Villa man wrote, “Bruno is absolutely unbelievable footballer man.”

It is a testament to Fernandes’s ability that his brilliance is now being acknowledged by rival players, not just those within his own club.

Fernandes and his teammates return to action on Friday when they go away to Bournemouth.
