Manchester United starlet Reece Munro has put pen to paper on his first professional contract with the club.
Munro was a regular presence for the Under-18s and Under-21s last season, frequently lining up at centre-back and in some instances, at right-back.
He made 27 appearances across all competitions, contributing two goals and as many assists in that period.
A strong and physically dominant defender, Munro reads the game well. His performances earned him a spot in Ruben Amorim’s travelling squad for the post-season tour in Asia.
The 18-year-old was given minutes in the defeat to ASEAN All-Stars. He gave a solid account of himself as he slotted alongside Harry Maguire and Ayden Heaven.
United have seemingly chosen to recognise Munro’s development by offering him his first professional contract.
Earlier on Tuesday, the teenager took to Instagram to confirm the news. He published a picture of himself signing the contract.
He accompanied the photo with the message, “Delighted to announce I’ve signed my first professional contract with this massive club, a proud moment for me and my family.”
“Thank you to those who have played a role in my journey so far.”
“Hard work continues…”
For Munro, his full focus will now be on trying to break into Amorim’s first-team plans ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
Amorim has demonstrated a willingness to trust young players, and if Munro impresses during pre-season, there’s a real chance he’ll earn a key role in the team.
Alternatively, United could decide to send him out on loan to gain first-team experience.
