Piquerez stepped up his recovery as Palmeiras reconvened on Monday morning at the Academia de Futebol, a day after the 1-0 win over Red Bull Bragantino. Focus now turns to Wednesday’s Copa Libertadores trip to Asunción to face Cerro Porteño at 21:30.
According to Nosso Palestra, the left-back, recovering from right ankle surgery carried out in early April, followed an internal programme and completed light on-pitch work with the physiotherapy staff. The Uruguayan is progressing in his rehabilitation.
The starters from Sunday’s match undertook recovery sessions in the club’s recovery and neuroscience centre. The remaining players, joined by academy youngsters, played a full-pitch practice game, then moved into specific small-sided drills.
Forward Paulinho continues to make strides and took part fully in the day’s work. Palmeiras top Group F on four points after a 1-1 draw away to Junior Barranquilla and a 2-1 home win over Sporting Cristal at Allianz Parque.
Palmeiras and Cerro Porteño is one of the Libertadores’ classic match-ups, with 16 meetings across group and knockout stages. Under Abel Ferreira, Palmeiras have six straight wins in this fixture, scoring 16 and conceding one.
As visitors against the Paraguayans, Palmeiras remain unbeaten, with five wins and three draws.
