Gerard Piqué’s Kings League has launched a collective redundancy process. Affected employees say almost half of roles in Kings Competition and Kings Spain will be cut, despite the company’s 30% figure.

The measure was announced two days before talks on the collective dismissal. According to Superdeporte, the Barcelona-based firm says the file covers 41 positions out of 125. The cuts are being enacted in Kings Competition and Kings Spain, which together number 83 roles, with 41 at risk.

The company has pushed any return of the competition in Spain to 2027, and plans a six-month pause to review its model and prepare the product. Staff question whether that is credible, warning that without the qualified people who have staged recent events, the future may not be viable.

Employees say the measures will also hit Kings League France and Kings League Germany. They add that the process began three weeks ago, with confidentiality demanded, yet a softened version of events was later leaked by the company. Some staff said the outcome had felt inevitable for some time.

The seven-a-side competition, created by the former Barcelona defender, says it needs to reshape its structure as it reformulates the model. Workers estimate the redundancies will save a little over two million euros.
