Dunkerque looked like they could have achieved the impossible when they went 2-0 up against Paris Saint-Germain, but goals from Doué, Dembélé and Marquinhos sealed a comeback win in Lille to qualify Les Parisiens for their 21st Coupe de France final.THE MATCH l’Union Sportive de Littoral de Dunkerque made their second-ever appearance in a Coupe de France in their history, and the first in 85 years. Despite the calibre of opposition, the Seasiders were confident after knocking out two Champions League participants in Lille and Stade Brestois already in the Coupe de France this season. The side from the northern coastal town ripped up the script in a barn-storming first half display.Les Parisiens started slow despite holding the majority of possession in the opening periods of the game, but it was looking like Luis Enrique’s men had a handle on things before Dunkerque managed to work their way up the pitch and earn a freekick. Former PSG academy player Alec Georgen rose highest to flick the ball onto Vincent Sasso to poke home at the far post and send the Stade Pierre Mauroy into raptures.
The battle between the two sides was very much on as PSG looked startled by the opening goal but managed to force the Seasiders into retreat – even looking like six at the back at times. But Les Nordistes would rip up the script when Muhannad Al Saad was fed the ball through on goal, and profited from some defensive hesitancy from Lucas Beraldo to burst through the backline and then finish underneath Safonov. But the Parisian fightback would start just before half-time as Ousmane Dembélé made a tricky run in the box and fired a powerful strike past Jaouen to halve the deficit.
Les Parisiens came out of the blocks quick, but it was a rare goal from a set-piece which got PSG on level terms after Ousmane Dembélé whipped in a ball for Marquinhos to nod past Jaouen. With some doubt over the corner should have been given, Les Dunkerquois would rightly feel hard done by.
Ewen Jaouen – 7
The winner of the previous penalty shootout had the difficult task of trying to keep PSG bay tonight between the sticks. But the 19-year-old dealt well with the sheer amount of shots on his goal despite conceding expectedly to an unfortunate deflected strike and to a superb effort from Ousmane Dembélé.
Alec Georgen – 6
Vincent Sasso – 7
Geoffrey Kondo – 5
Diogo Queirós – 6
Muhannad Yahya Saeed Al Saad – 7
A very selfless performance from the Saudi winger, who put the Ligue 2 side two goals after spending a lot of time in his own half and defending the wide areas. He became the first Saudi Arabian player to score against Paris Saint-Germain.
Naatan Skyttä – 7
The Finnish midfielder on loan from Toulouse shone in the first period and looked at the centre of every attack that Dunkerque made. His tenacity and driving efforts in pressing helped deal with Les Parisiens’ long periods of pressure in the first half.
Enzo Bardeli – 7
The Frenchman did his fair bit in midfield to protect the back four, but was great at trying to transition and get on the ball in the first half. His delivery also looked dangerous from set-pieces, but it would have been nice to see more of his technical ability that he regularly shows in Ligue 2.
Gessime Yassine – 6
Matyev Safonov – 4
Nuno Mendes – 5
Lucas Beraldo – 4
Marquinhos – 6
Acraf Hakimi – 5
Warren Zaïre-Emery – 5
Vitinha – 5
Joao Neves – 6
Bradley Barcola – 4
Désiré Doué – 7
Scored his tenth goal of the season with the somewhat lucky deflected shot, but was industrious and creative in his attacking play. He combined well with Neves, Barcola, and Dembélé and of course grabbed a goal to top it off.
Ousmane Dembélé – 7
A moment of brilliance kicked off PSG’s comeback in the second half with a goal right at the end of the first, a bit of trickery and then a powerful thrashed strike past for his first goal of the evening. He then secured his second with a great bit of composure to receive the ball on the halfway line and run the length of the pitch to finish one on one and secure PSG’s spot in the Coupe de France final.GFFN | George Boxall
