Lazio’s hopes of salvaging their campaign with a Coppa Italia triumph came crashing down in the final, as they were outplayed by Inter Milan.
Adam Marusic gifted the Nerazzurri the opener by scoring in his own net, while Nuno Tavares’ blunder paved the way for a second goal courtesy of Lautaro Martinez. So here are our player ratings for Lazio, who finished their season empty-handed after coming short in the Coppa Italia final against Inter Milan.
Edoardo Motta – 5.5
The young goalkeeper wasn’t at fault in either goal, but he still had his nervy moments, especially with the ball at his feet.
Adam Marusic – 4
While one could argue that heading the ball into his own net was simply unfortunate, Lazio fans would have expected more from their most senior player. He also allowed Lautaro Martinez to escape early on and get a free header, and as usual, didn’t offer anything going forward.
Mario Gila – 6.5
The Spaniard did fairly well in his battle against Lautaro. He also tried his best to bring the ball forward.
Alessio Romagnoli – 6.5
The experienced defender made important interventions throughout the match.
Nuno Tavares – 4.5
The Portuguese left-back had his moments, like blocking Dumfries’ volley, but his outing will be remembered for the naive howler that led to Inter’s second goal, as he allowed the Dutchman to pick his pocket easily.
Toma Basic – 5.5
The Croatian wasn’t necessarily poor, but he couldn’t quite distinguish himself in the midfield battle.
Patric – 5
Although it’s not his fault, the makeshift Regista wasn’t able to provide any flair or dictate the tempo in the middle of the park. He rightly made way for Rovella after the interval.
Kenneth Taylor – 6
The former Ajax man was more daring than some of his teammates, showing some character and tenacity in his battle against Nicolo Rovella, but it wasn’t enough to disrupt the Nerazzurri.
Gustav Isaksen – 5.5
The right winger had some success in his duel against Alessandro Bastoni, and many would argue the latter deserved a second yellow. However, Isaksen still lacked the execution in crucial instances.
Tijjani Noslin – 6
The Dutchman fought hard for every ball, and came closer than any other Lazio player to scoring. However, he squandered a glorious counterattack with an overhit pass to Isaksen.
Mattia Zaccagni – 5.5
The captain showed his character and was happy to track back and support his teammates at the back, but he remains far from his best. He was reluctant to take on Yann Bisseck when the latter was on a yellow.
Nicolo Rovella – 6.5
Lazio instantly improved with the deep-lying playmaker on the pitch. He managed to speed up the rhythm and drive the entire team forward.
Matteo Cancellieri – 5.5
Replaced Isaksen, but wasn’t an upgrade on the Dane.
Boulaye Dia – 5
The Senegalese striker should have done better when he found himself in front of goal.
Manuel Lazzari – 6.5
Like Rovella, he made an immediate impact, breathing life into the right wing. Picked up Cancellieri and Dia with clever plays.
Pedro – 5.5
The veteran went lunging into Dimarco, sparking a late melee. Bid the Lazio fans an emotional farewell after the match.
