Lazio booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia after edging past AC Milan in a rather cagey affair.

Mattia Zaccagni uncharacteristically scored with a header in the 80th minute, and it proved to be the solitary difference between the two sides. So here are our player ratings for Lazio, who enjoyed their most enchanting evening at the Stadio Olimpico since the start of the season.

Lazio XI (4-3-3)

Christos Mandas – 7

The Greek goalkeeper didn’t look rusty at all despite being benched since the start of the season. Made a crucial save to deny Christian Pulisic in the added time, and his distribution was on cue.

Adam Marusic – 6

A solid if not spectacular display from Maurizio Sarri’s most trusted full-back, although his attacking contribution was too scarce.

Mario Gila – 6

The Spaniard did well to keep Rafael Leao at bay, but his overconfidence on the ball almost cost Lazio dearly as he got dispossessed in a dangerous area.

Alessio Romagnoli – 6.5

The Italian defender lost an aerial duel to Ruben Loftus-Cheek, but his leadership at the back was vital as ever.

Luca Pellegrini – 6

The former Juventus man put on a shift and was able to neutralise the danger of Alexis Saelemaekers.

Matteo Guendouzi – 6.5

A combative display from the Frenchman, who retrieved possession on multiple occasions. Held his own against Adrien Rabiot this time.

Matias Vecino – 6

Despite being the oldest starter in the game, the Uruguayan veteran ran more than anyone else in the first half. However, Sarri decided to haul him off as he started flagging after the break.

Toma Basic – 6.5

The Croatian proved he’s reliable once more, as he began the match as a box-to-box midfielder, before moving to a deeper role following Vecino’s exit. Saw his shot whistle past the post in the first half.

Gustav Isaksen – 5.5

The Dane wasn’t at his best against Milan, as he struggled to keep track of Pervis Estupinan at times. Could have put Lazio ahead late in the first half, but his volley hit Mike Maignan’s body.

Taty Castellanos – 5.5

The Argentine worked hard for the team and fought for every ball, but he still needs time to regain his optimal condition, as his timing seemed off on a few occasions.

Mattia Zaccagni – 7

Although it wasn’t a vintage Zaccagni performance, the captain only needed one inspirational moment to win it for the Biancocelesti, as he surprisingly scored with a clinical header.

Substitutes

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru – 6

The Nigerian worked hard during his cameo, but saw very little of the ball.

Tijjani Noslin – 6.5

The Dutchman was an upgrade on Castellanos, as his slick movement caused havoc at the back for Milan. Won several fouls, and was only denied a goal by a superb save from Maignan.

Nuno Tavares – 6.5

The Portuguese provided the assist for Zaccagni with a sublime inswinger shortly following his introduction.

Pedro – N/A

Matteo Cancellieri – N/A
