“Players make mistakes…” – Rosenior doesn’t take blame for big lineup call which cost Chelsea | OneFootball

Liam Rosenior has defended his decision to use Filip Jorgensen, but it was clear to all that that call backfired in tonight’s game.

It was an ugly 15 minutes for Chelsea at the Parc des Princes last night as they collapsed from a strong position.

Filip Jorgensen was the focus of attentions before the game after his status as a number one goalkeeper was confirmed by his selection. He made some good saves, but his horror mistake to make it 3-2 turned the game in a moment, and Chelsea crumbled in that moment.

It was inevitable Rosenior would be asked if he’d thought he had made a mistake bringing the Dane in.

“Players make mistakes. Filip’s not the first one to make a mistake. And that’s part of football,” Rosenior said.

“Obviously, it’s bitter… In that moment, at 2-2, I think we were in the ascendancy. We were an inch away from going even to 3-3. I think Joao Pedro’s goal was like an inch offside. But in the top level, in the Champions League level, it is fine margins. And the fifth goal was the most painful one, we don’t settle ourselves down. We don’t deal with the basic pattern of play. They score a fifth goal and make the tie very difficult for us.”

It’s all true, but it doesn’t really remove from the original point that he chose to change his keeper situation and he was very directly hurt by that today.

Rosenior has also noted his own failings in the game to some degree in terms of game management. He looked a little like a rabbit in the spotlight at times yesterday evening.
