Robert Lewandowski is already in the final months of his contract with Barcelona, but his future remains undecided.

The Polish striker knows that the Catalans are willing to offer him a renewal on reduced wages, and that he also has economically lucrative options from lower leagues including in the Middle East and the United States.

A recent third option has popped up, one that assures Lewandowski a higher pay with elite European football, and it is Juventus who offer him that option. The veteran striker, however, is yet to make a final call.

Advice from a legend

Former Poland international and Juventus legend Zbigniew Boniek spoke to the media (h/t Mundo Deportivo) recently, where he explained why joining Juventus was a possible option for Lewandowski to continue his career.

“If he wants to fight for victory every Sunday for two more years, Juventus would be a great challenge and the perfect place for him, I have always told Lewandowski to come to Italy.”

Elaborating on whether the Polish striker should continue playing at the end of his contract and whether retirement was a real possibility, Boniek said:

“It depends on what’s on his mind. If Robert wants to retire quietly, I would tell him to let football go.”

“But if he wants to fight for victory every Sunday for two more years, Juventus would be a great challenge and the perfect place for him,” he added.

Finally, the Polish legend explained how it was not the first time he had advised the Barcelona star to consider a stint in Italy.

“I’ve known Robert since he was a little boy and played in the Polish Second Division. He was already scoring a lot of goals at that time,” he began.

“Then we met in the national team, me as president of the Federation, him as a striker,” he added, explaining how they crossed paths at multiple levels.

“Sometimes I made fun of him and said ‘You score so many goals because you have never played in Italy. To be a true scorer, you also have to show your potential in Serie A,” Boniek noted.

“Maybe it’s not the most beautiful championship to see, but it’s still the hardest, especially for the strikers,” he concluded.
