Portland Timbers sign former Tottenham striker to boost their offensive power | OneFootball

After the World Cup, the MLS has attracted new international superstars. In this case, Robert Lewandowski is the most recent superstar to join the league after confirming his signing with the Chicago Fire.

Although he's the biggest name linked with the club, several MLS teams have signed players with experience in Europe's top leagues.

Now, it's time for the Portland Timbers to appear with the signing tag. Not only did they have a spectacular return to the regular season, but they are also looking to strengthen their attack even further.

His new signing arrives from Royal Antwerp FC and has a past with Tottenham Hotspur.

Portland Timbers sign forward Vincent Janssen

Even though they have returned to the season with two spectacular wins and one draw, the Timbers know it’s not enough and have decided to reinforce their offense.

“Janssen is set to join the Timbers on a two-year contract through the 2027-28 season, pending receipt of his P-1 visa. Portland acquires Janssen on a free transfer following his four-year stint with Royal Antwerp FC (2022-26) of the Belgian Jupiler Pro League.”

Many of you should remember him for his time with Tottenham Hotspur, where he became a great backup striker for Harry Kane. During his time with the Spurs, Janssen played 42 games, recording six goals and four assists.

Alongside his long-term career, the Dutch forward played 474 matches, recording 172 goals and 61 assists.

Regarding their new signing, General Manager Ned Grabavoy said:

“We are pleased to be able to add a player with the level of qualities that Vincent possesses. His experience and goal-scoring ability will add value to our current group, and we believe he will have an impactful role within the team.”

Adding: “We look forward to welcoming Vincent and his family to the Rose City, and are hopeful to have him ready and available soon.”

Not only did he have a decent career between clubs, but he also played 22 matches for the Netherlands, recording 22 goals and 7 assists.

This new deal brings experience to the front line while also bringing a veteran with plenty of fuel in the tank.

The truth is, Janssen is only 32 years old, meaning he still has plenty left to offer and could provide quality to the Timbers for several seasons if he proves to be a good fit.

The Dutch forward signed a two-year contract, but it could very well be extended if he performs well on the pitch.
