FC Porto have decided to lodge a formal complaint with the Portuguese Football Federation over the Municipal de Coimbra pitch and are evaluating a potential compensation claim linked to Bednarek’s injury, according to O Jogo. He is expected to be sidelined for around two weeks.
The club alerted the federation upon arrival for their pre-match pitch walk on the eve of the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira final, expressing concern and indignation. Those objections were reiterated at Saturday’s preparatory meeting.
Vice-president Tiago Madureira warned of the risk of injuries, hoped both teams would avoid problems and said responsibility would be pursued if anything happened. Bednarek then sustained the injury Porto attribute to the poor surface.
Porto considered the turf to be in a deplorable state and said the issue was not merely cosmetic. They had been uneasy about the venue from the moment the final was assigned to Coimbra.
The club formally conveyed those concerns to federation officials in early July during the first meeting between clubs and officials. Coimbra’s city council is considering replacing the turf next month.
