John Mousinho will be hoping to guide his team to an improved position over the next 12 months, with a top half of the table finish possibly in their sights.

The Hampshire outfit have already made a few signings to bolster their squad for the campaign ahead.

Rocco Shein has joined from Fredrikstad FK on a permanent basis, while Odin Bailey has arrived as a free agent after his exit from Stockport County.

More additions could be made between now and the 1 September deadline, with there still being plenty of time to get deals over the line.

Portsmouth will also be focused on the beginning of the new campaign, which gets underway on 15 August with a home clash against QPR.

It has been reported by Hull Live that Portsmouth remain in the hunt for the signature of Abu Kamara.

It was claimed earlier this summer that Pompey were keen on bringing the 22-year-old back to Fratton Park after he previously spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan with the club.

However, the Championship side now faces competition from rival Charlton Athletic in the bid to sign Kamara.

Portsmouth have been unable to strike an agreement with Hull for the winger, which has opened the door for the Addicks to potentially swoop in.

Kamara spent last season on loan with Spanish side Getafe, where he featured 12 times in La Liga, including one start, but he failed to contribute a single goal or assist.

The forward’s contract with Hull is set to expire in June 2028, but a permanent exit is on the cards this summer as he has fallen down the pecking order under Sergej Jakirovic.

How Portsmouth fans feel about Abu Kamara transfer update

Portsmouth fans are pessimistic about completing a deal for Kamara, with Charlton now showing an interest in a deal.

Supporters have vented their frustrations at the prospect of losing out on the 22-year-old, urging Pompey to act before a deal is no longer available.

However, some fans have claimed that losing out in the race to sign Kamara might not be the worst thing for the club given he has yet to prove himself at a Championship level.

Kamara contributed eight goals and 10 assists to help Portsmouth win League One in 2023/24.

Portsmouth fans will be frustrated to lose out to Charlton for Abu Kamara

Kamara was a crucial part of Mousinho’s side when Portsmouth gained promotion in 2024, so it’s not surprising that fans want to see him back.

While it’s understandable to have some reservations over his ability to step up to the Championship, working alongside the Pompey boss again could be a good move for the 22-year-old.

Kamara is also still young enough that he can still develop his game, and Charlton will see that potential as well.

Given he is surplus to requirements at Hull, particularly as they are now in the Premier League, Portsmouth should push to bring him back to the club.
