Portsmouth boss John Mousinho has rubbished any links with the West Brom managerial vacancy.

The 39-year-old had become one of the bookies’ favourites for the position as the Baggies continue to search for a permanent replacement for Tony Mowbray.

Albion missed out on a play-off place in the Championship, and opted to dismiss the veteran coach, who had returned to the club in January of this year.

Meanwhile, Mousinho has earned a lot of plaudits for his work at Fratton Park, having ensured the club’s safety from relegation from the Championship this season after guiding them to the League One title in 2024.

Mousinho has claimed that he has had no discussions with West Brom over potentially taking charge of the club this summer.

He admitted that he chuckled at the suggestion that any talks had taken place, reiterating that his immediate future remains with Portsmouth.

“I know that if my performances aren’t right, the football club may want to move on,” said Mousinho, via The News.

“You never know what’s going to happen in football.

“Sometimes bookies' odds are really accurate, and sometimes they aren't. That one was completely inaccurate, certainly in terms of there being any link whatsoever, there wasn’t even any low-end agent talks.

“I am still sitting here and I am sure West Brom are doing the same, chuckling at the notion, because neither of us have spoken to each other.”

Mousinho took charge of Portsmouth in January 2023, and has overseen 124 games as manager of the south coast club.

He guided the team to an eighth place finish in League One in the 2022/23 campaign before overseeing their promotion to the Championship in 2024.

Pompey secured their safety in the second division with weeks to spare, eventually finishing 16th in the table.

They will now be hoping to hold onto Mousinho as they look to make the jump into contention for a top half finish over the next 12 months.

Portsmouth will be keen to keep Mousinho

Mousinho has done a great job at Portsmouth, and it’s no surprise that his name is being thrown around in relation to the West Brom job.

Pompey will be keen to keep him over the summer, as he has managed to improve the team year-on-year since joining.

Their goal will be to strengthen the team in the transfer window so that they can climb into the top half of the table next season.
