Portsmouth have had a bid accepted for Rotherham United defender Cohen Bramall.
Portsmouth have had a bid for Rotherham United left-back Cohen Bramall accepted by the League One outfit.
Bramall has featured 16 times for Steve Evans' Millers this season, but has failed to register a goal contribution thus far, and has also only started five times in the third tier of English football, with the rest of his outings coming from the bench.
However, the full-back could be in for a mid-season swap to the Championship, as journalist Pete O'Rourke has revealed via X that John Mousinho's Portsmouth have seen a bid for Bramall accepted.
This may come as a surprise for supporters of both clubs, as the 28-year-old hasn't been a regular fixture in the Rotherham squad this season, yet is set to make the step up a division for the remainder of 2024-25.
Former Arsenal full-back Bramall joined the Millers in 2022, signing from Lincoln City after Rotherham met a release clause in his contract.
Whilst he's featured in the majority of matches over the previous two seasons, Bramall has found minutes hard to come by this campaign.
However, his wealth of Championship experience at the New York Stadium has landed him a potential move back to the second tier. Portsmouth are in the fight of their lives to preserve their Championship status, and have identified the 28-year-old as a target.
The developments seem to be moving fast, as the Blues have now had a bid accepted for Bramall, as revealed by O'Rourke on Wednesday. Now, the player looks set to head to the south coast to have a medical and link up with his new teammates.
It's unknown what the fee being paid by Pompey is, but it seems unlikely it will be substantial, as Bramall isn't a first-team regular for his current club.
The left side of the defence has been a worry for Portsmouth, as Jacob Farrell sustained a season-ending injury, leaving just Connor Ogilvie as the only natural left-back on the books.
Last week, Portsmouth boss John Mousinho came out with a shock transfer stance on the potential arrival of a left-back, telling The News: "Nothing [happening at left-back] at the moment, it’s a really difficult one for us to properly nail down.
"We’ve got priorities elsewhere on the pitch. If you talk about the markets we’re in and loan markets, we don’t want a squad over-inflated with loans.
"So at the minute we’re keeping an eye out in anything pops up, but nothing looks likely."
Just days later, it looks like this claim is going to be proven wrong, as Mousinho's bid for the ex-Arsenal youngster has been accepted.
Having experienced a relegation dogfight in the Championship before, Bramall offers a great rotation option for Pompey as they look to maintain their second tier status.
It also seems like a decent deal for Rotherham, as they will be receiving a fee for a player who finds himself on the fringes of the first-team squad. This also allows the Millers to strengthen, as they look to build on an underwhelming first half of the campaign.
