Talks between Chelsea and Portsmouth are ‘trending in the right direction’ over Ryan Kavuma-McQueen’s loan move to Fratton Park this summer, according to journalist Nizaar Kinsella.

Kavuma-McQueen joined Chelsea’s youth system at the age of seven in 2016 and after ten years with the Blues, signed his first professional contract in January 2026.

In the recent campaign, while playing in the Premier League 2, the 17-year-old made 13 appearances and contributed to eight goals.

The versatile attacker, who has experience playing as a right winger, left winger, attacking midfielder, left and right midfielder, has garnered interest this summer.

Championship side Portsmouth have been working in the transfer window to bring Kavuma-McQueen to Fratton Park to add more options to their attack.

Now, talks between the Blues and Pompey are trending in the right direction and Kavuma-McQueen is expected to join the Championship side on loan for the upcoming season.

Kavuma-McQueen has only made one appearance for Chelsea’s senior team to date, and a loan move could provide him with more game time and help his development.

The Blues have managed departures of several young players, with Jesse Derry, Genesis Antwi and Ollie Harrison all sent out on season-long loans to speed up their development.

As things stand for the senior team, Alejandro Garnacho has been sent on loan to Aston Villa, who were also keen on Nicolas Jackson.

Portsmouth will want to get the deal done for Kavuma-McQueen as soon as possible, with the new Championship campaign looming.

Having kept hold of John Mousinho as boss, Pompey will be aiming to kick on this season, potentially even threatening a playoff spot finish.

Mousinho is being backed and has just brought in Abu Kamara from Hull City on a permanent deal.

Kamara had a loan stint at Fratton Park earlier in his career and bringing him back is a big coup for Pompey.

Portsmouth exited the EFL Cup at the first round stage at the weekend, suffering a 3-1 loss against Championship rivals West Ham United.

Mousinho will now be focused on the league opener, when QPR arrive at Fratton Park, and it remains to be seen if Kavuma-McQueen will be at his disposal.
