Portugal assistant Ricardo Carvalho to return home after father’s death | OneFootball

Ricardo Carvalho, assistant to Roberto Martinez with Portugal at the World Cup, has been bereaved following the death of his father.

The former centre-back, 48, won 89 caps for Portugal between 2003 and 2016. His father was 69.

He remained with the squad on Monday morning for training in Palm Beach, Florida.

He was due to fly back to Portugal later in the day to attend the funeral.

The federation did not say whether he will be back for the Portugal v Croatia tie in Toronto, which is scheduled for 1am in France in the night from Thursday to Friday.
