Portugal will face Colombia in a decisive final Group K clash on Sunday at Miami Stadium, with the outcome determining which team finishes top of the group and who they will face in the next round.
Portugal arrive with strong momentum after a dominant 5-0 victory over Uzbekistan, a match in which Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice. That performance came after a disappointing 1-1 draw against DR Congo in their opening group fixture. In the lead-up to the World Cup, Portugal also showed impressive form, securing friendly wins over Nigeria and Chile, along with a goalless draw against Mexico.
Manager Roberto Martínez has the advantage of having most of his squad fully fit for this important match.
Defensive leader Rúben Dias is back to full fitness and will once again anchor the backline after featuring in the previous game.
The only minor concern is Tomás Araújo, who is not expected to start and will likely be kept on the bench as a precaution.
Portugal must win this match to overtake Colombia and finish at the top of the group, so Martínez is expected to set his team up in an attacking 4-2-3-1 system.
Cristiano Ronaldo will lead the attack, full of confidence following his two-goal display in the last game.
Behind him, Bruno Fernandes and João Félix will provide creativity and attacking support as they look to break down Colombia’s organised defence.
Possible Portugal starting XI: D Costa; Cancelo, Dias, Veiga, Mendes; Vitinha, Fernandes, J Neves; Neto, Ronaldo, Felix
The match will kick off at 12:30am BST on Sunday, 28th June.
