Switzerland and Bosnia will meet today as the second round of Group B games gets underway in Los Angeles, California.
Both sides drew their opening game 1-1 with Qatar and Canada, respectively, leaving the group entirely up in the air. However, Bosnia will certainly see their point as a better result than Switzerland will. Murat Yakin’s Swiss side squandered countless chances against Qatar, only netting once from 26 shots before being undone by a 94th-minute own goal to drop points in their opener.
The two sides haven’t met since 2016 in a friendly that saw Bosnia pick up a 2-0 win. However, a decade on from that match, Switzerland are firm favourites for this clash, and that is backed up by the FIFA World Rankings. The Swiss currently sit 19th in those rankings, whilst Bosnia are 64th, making them the lowest-ranked side in the group.
Despite qualifying for the tournament through the play-offs, Bosnia have drawn their last six matches. A run that stretches back to November 2025’s draw with Austria, who topped their qualification group with 19 points. The Dragons have only ever qualified for the World Cup once before, in 2014, when they were eliminated in the group stage, finishing third in a group with Argentina, Nigeria and Iran. By contrast, this is Switzerland’s 13th World Cup appearance, with their best runs being to the quarter-finals in 1934, 1938 and 1954.
Kick-off for this game is scheduled for 8pm (UK time) and Midday local time in Los Angeles.
