Chelsea take on Sunderland today in the final game of the season. It’s also interim manager Calum McFarlane’s last game in charge (for now…). So who will the former academy coach pick for the Blues?
McFarlane’s press conference this week made it sound like everyone is fully fit bar Jamie Gittens and Estevao. So, with some form of European football on the line, we expect a full strength team, likely returning to a back four.
That means Robert Sanchez in goal, with Reece James at right back, Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana at centre back, and Marc Cucurella at left back.
In midfield, it’s a toss up between Romeo Lavia and Andrey Santos to play alongside Moises Caicedo. We’ll give it to the Belgian, given it should be a fairly open game.
Ahead of them will be Enzo Fernandez, playing in what we hear is potentially his last game for the Blues.
Up front, Joao Pedro will lead the line flanked by Cole Palmer and Pedro Neto.
Xabi Alonso wants more options up front, and one of them could be a player already on Chelsea’s books it seems.
Chelsea’s academy players had an amazing year when we were in the Conference League, and we could be about to repeat that.
