These final days of the summer transfer window will surely be interesting for FC Barcelona. While no major signing seems to be planned, the Catalan side might still see some departures take place. One of the names to be heavily linked to a potential exit is Fermin Lopez.

Previously linked to Chelsea, the London-based club reportedly had some serious interest in the young midfielder. Now, however, it is being reported that another side from the Premier League might be willing to spend a lot of money to ensure Lopez’s signing.

According to El Chiringuito TV, Newcastle United are now preparing a €100 million offer for the Spanish midfielder. Reportedly, this offer would exceed the €90 million price tag that Barça had in mind for the player previously.

The same report claims that Chelsea was also interested in offering around €50 million for the player, but Newcastle’s reported offer would far exceed that. Moreover, the update claims that the English side would be willing to increase the Barça midfielder’s wages by four times compared to what he currently earns.

Now, the decision lies with both Lopez and the Catalan club if such an offer does end up arriving. However, it was reported previously that Barça would only agree to a departure if the player himself asks for one. For now, however, it is clear that this is one potential operation worth keeping an eye on.

Still, it must be remembered that the Spanish player is a unique profile in Hansi Flick’s squad. Agreeing to let him go, despite the obvious financial benefits, would mean that the current squad loses a very effective component that has helped out a lot in the past. Thus, this becomes a big decision for Barça if they are eventually put in a position to make it.
