Borussia Dortmund II will play against Real Madrid Castilla for the Premier League International Cup trophy on Tuesday. The final of the annual U21 football competition by the Premier League will be played at Wycombe Wanderers’ stadium, Adams Park.

Borussia Dortmund finished top of their group before eliminating Everton and Real Sociedad in the knockout stages. Real Madrid’s youth team are unbeaten so far in the competition, but they needed extra-time against both Manchester United and Dinamo Zagreb in the previous rounds.

Álvaro Arbeloa was in charge of the club during the four group stage games before Julián López de Lerma took over from him when the 43-year-old got the first team job in January.

Borussia Mönchengladbach and RB Leipzig also took part in the 32-team tournament this season before being knocked out of the group stage. Nottingham Forest are the holders, but they also exited in the group stage this term.

Bayern Munich (2018/19) are the only German team to win the competition in the previous eight editions. Porto are the only club to win it twice as they also reached the final in the inaugural season, where they lost to Manchester City with Kelechi Iheanacho scoring the only goal of the first-ever final.

Daniel Ríos is the coach of Borussia Dortmund II, while Marcel Schmeltzer is part of the coaching staff until taking a break at the end of the season. Dortmund will use the mix of U19 and U23 players for Tuesday’s final. While the average age of Real Madrid players was 21 years for the semi-final, BVB’s was only 18.7.

Luca Reggiani and Samuele Inácio are out of the squad after they both started in Friday’s Bundesliga game against Eintracht Frankfurt. Almugera Kabar and Filippo Mane, who both have first-team experience, are included in the 18-man squad for the game.
