Premier League: Jorrel Hato joins Chelsea

Chelsea officially announced on Monday, August 4, the signing of Dutch defender Jorrel Hato from Ajax Amsterdam for a reported fee of €43 million.

The 19-year-old prodigy has signed a seven-year contract with the Blues. Able to play both as a central defender and on the left side of the backline, Hato perfectly embodies manager Enzo Maresca’s new project, which is focused on youth and versatility.

"I am very happy to be here. I have thought a lot about my future, and Chelsea is the right place to take the next step," said the player, already capped six times for the Netherlands. Developed at Sparta Rotterdam and then at Ajax since 2018, he played 111 matches for the Amsterdam club, scoring four goals and establishing himself as one of the brightest defensive prospects in Europe.

Jorrel Hato becomes Chelsea’s eighth summer signing, joining a roster already bolstered by Jamie Gittens, Liam Delap, João Pedro, Mamadou Sarr, Dario Essugo, Estevão Willian, and Kendry Páez. Chelsea will kick off their Premier League campaign on August 17 against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge.
