Ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League season we spoke to fans of all 20 clubs to get their views on the upcoming campaign.
Here we chat about all things Liverpool ahead of their opening game.
Sort the off-the-pitch stuff early. The continued circus around the contracts of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold was a constant distraction.
Fortunately, it didn’t prove costly, but it might in a closer title race. Alexander-Arnold’s exit was also a financial hit that FSG will not have liked. The current situation with Ibrahima Konate is worrying…
A class act. Many were worried when Jurgen Klopp left but Slot has stepped in easily – and then some. Most would have settled for Champions League football and a cup run, so to end the season as champions, comfortably, was something unexpected. The confidence to not rush into the transfer market last summer and assess the current squad says a lot about him. It avoided unnecessary mistakes and we’re better for it.
Lastly, he’s handled the tragic situation around Diogo Jota’s passing as best as anyone could. An unforeseen loss that the club is going to feel for a long time.
Surprising! There were hints at a big summer in May but I don’t think anyone really expected what was to come. FSG have decided to loosen the purse strings this summer and its built up the excitement for the new season.
Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez look like a throw-back pair of overlapping full-backs, while Hugo Ekitike was the standout in the Community Shield.
Florian Wirtz, however, is the most exciting of the lot and his class has been clear from minute one. I think there’s an argument that he’s the most exciting signing by any Premier League club in a long time.
A couple of centre-backs and Alexander Isak would be nice before the deadline… a 10/10 window if that happens.
Rio Ngumoha. He’s been a breath of fresh air in pre-season and, at 16, has no fear. With Luis Diaz leaving and no direct replacement likely to arrive, he could get some minutes this season.
Dominik Szoboszlai. I think he’s been slightly misprofiled as a number ten and a lack of goals and assists means he doesn’t get the credit he deserves. As a box-to-box eight his energy is crucial. I’ve been surprised to see so many teams not including him this season after the arrival of Wirtz.
Manchester City has been the one in recent years. Though it would be nice to get off to a winning start at the Hill Dickinson Stadium…
Morgan Rogers. There’s just something about players willing to take opponents on in central areas…
We’re going back-to-back. Champions again.
