Atletico Madrid defender Nahuel Molina could leave the club in the final hours of the summer transfer window.

Los Rojiblancos are working on incomings and outgoings ahead of the La Liga September 1 deadline and Molina is earmarked to leave.

After a summer of spending in Madrid, Diego Simeone is hoping to complete a loan offer for Nico Gonzalez from Juventus, but Molina is not heading in the opposite direction.

The Argentina international has become unpopular with the Los Rojiblancos fanbase and he was booed by the home crowd earlier this season.

A move to Turin was mooted at the start of August but he informed Simeone of his intention to stay in the Spanish capital.

However, with a lack of prominence in Simeone’s plans for the 2025/26 season, the situation could be revisited in the coming hours.

Reports from The Athletic claim Premier League side Nottingham Forest are preparing a season-long loan offer with a non-mandatory £25m purchase clause added at the City Ground.

Nuno Espirito Santo is looking to bolster his defensive options, ahead of a UEFA Conference League campaign, and Molina would add experience at right-back alongside Ola Aina.

Despite losing his starting spot to Marcos Llorente in the opening weeks of 2025/26, Molina is confident a career refresh can get him back to his old level, and Santo can offer more game time than Simeone.

Atletico Madrid have endured a poor start to the 2025/26 season with just two points picked up from their first three outings.

Defeat to Espanyol on the opening weekend was followed by back to back 1-1 draws against Elche and Alaves.

That has drawn criticism over Simeone’s changes this summer and their lack of early form, with the Argentinian hoping to utilise the incoming September international break as a chance to reset his squad for the challenge ahead.
