Heading into the summer transfer window, Real Madrid are in the market for a new central midfielder – a player who can control and dictate the tempo from the middle of the park.
The name most frequently linked with Real Madrid for the role has been Rodri. The Manchester City and Spain midfielder has been repeatedly associated with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu in recent months.
The fact that his contract expires in 2027, coupled with the departure of Pep Guardiola from Manchester City has only served to intensify the links.
On top of that, Real Madrid presidential candidate, Enrique Riquelme, has openly claimed that Rodri is one of the players he would bring to the club should he be elected next weekend.

However, according to AS, people close to Rodri have denied the existence of any agreement with the Real Madrid presidential candidate.
This comes after Riquelme’s statements wherein he vowed that the Manchester City midfield maestro will be a Real Madrid player if he became president.
“Rodri is a great player, I have said it many times, these days, when they have asked me and I don’t have to hide it. If I am president of Real Madrid, a player like Rodri will play in Real Madrid,” he had said over the weekend.
Despite the Spanish businessman’s comments, Rodri’s camp maintains that there is no agreement in place with the presidential candidate to join Real Madrid this summer.

However, at the same time, it must be remembered that Rodri, in the past, has hinted about his openness to move to Real Madrid should an opportunity present itself.
During the international break earlier this year, the Spaniard teased the possibility, although he later went on to say that his comments were taken out of context.
Nonetheless, any move will depend on a multitude of factors, including who the next Real Madrid manager will be.
