Our Premier League Team of the Week from the weekend action features Arsenal’s record-breaking teenager and West Ham’s resilient rearguard.

Goalkeeper: David Raya – Arsenal

Made to work for his clean sheet as Arsenal edged closer to title success. A superb stop denied Beto from close range, while the Spaniard saved well from Kieran Dewsbury-Hall’s fierce hit. A busier afternoon than he might have expected.

Centre-back: Jean-Clair Todibo – West Ham

What has happened to the West Ham defence? The previously maligned Jean-Clair Todibo and Konstantinos Mavropanos have turned corners, with January recruit Axel Disasi going from forgotten man at Chelsea to key cog with the Irons.

Todibo was brilliant against Manchester City this weekend, with front-footed defending and cool in possession.

Centre-back: Konstantinos Mavropanos – West Ham

A monster performance from Mavropanos, who has all the attributes to fulfil a flop to cult hero redemption arc. Has been terrific under Nuno Espirito Santo and was key again as West Ham battled to a result against Manchester City.

His giant leap and thumping header for the equaliser was the highlight of a performance that included 10 clearances and four blocked shots.

Centre-back: Malick Thiaw – Newcastle

Back to his best after the midweek disappointment of conceding a late penalty against Barcelona. The German was a wall of defensive defiance at Chelsea, blocking four shots and racking up nine clearances.

Midfield: Ethan Ampadu – Leeds United

A real captain’s performance from Ampadu as 10-man Leeds battled to a draw at Crystal Palace. Daniel Farke hailed the mentality of his team at full-time, and no player epitomised it better than the Welshman. He didn’t lose a single ground duel at Selhurst Park (7/7) and defended the box brilliantly.

Midfield: Casemiro – Manchester United

Another big goal from the Brazilian, who headed home his seventh of the season against Aston Villa. He’s been crucial to the upturn under Michael Carrick, providing the solid foundation from which to build in midfield. Could there be a rethink on his future?

Midfield: Bruno Fernandes – Manchester United

Strengthened his case for the season’s individual honours. Two more assists for Fernandes made it 16 for the campaign, double the next-highest player in the Premier League. The single-season record is within reach for the Manchester United captain.

Right-wing: Max Dowman – Arsenal

What an impact. The Arsenal teenager made history after becoming the youngest goalscorer in Premier League history, sealing the 2-0 win over Everton in stoppage time.

Dowman’s introduction added the spark Arsenal needed, with his searching cross creating the 89th-minute opener against a stubborn Everton side.

Left-wing: Anthony Gordon – Newcastle

A perfect response to some midweek noise. Gordon got the goal that earned Newcastle the points at Chelsea, with a calm finish after Joe Willock’s unselfish square pass. He then forced a fantastic save from Robert Sanchez in a lively performance.

Forward: Richarlison – Tottenham

The ex-Everton man silenced Liverpool with a late goal that could be massive for Spurs. A point is not enough to drag the North Londoners away from trouble, but it’s stopped a rot that has taken hold of the club in recent weeks. Richarlison’s equaliser was richly deserved, having been a menace all afternoon at Anfield.
