Despite their best efforts, FC Barcelona have yet to secure the necessary licences and permits to reopen the Spotify Camp Nou.

The hope is for a return to the stadium for the Real Sociedad game on 28 September. But, even if the La Liga games took place there, it is unlikely that Barça can host PSG for their UEFA Champions League game on 1 October.

UEFA’s Champions League demands a minimum stadium capacity and specific stands to be open. In this initial phase, Camp Nou’s capacity would be just 27,000 spectators, limited to the first two tiers of the main stand and the south goal.

The competition, however, requires the lateral stands to be open too – something that would not be possible at this stage. As such, the PSG clash is likely to be played at Estadi Lluis Companys in Montjuic.

Preparations are underway at Montjuic

Building on that, SPORT now reports that the Montjuic Stadium is being readied to host the Barcelona vs PSG on 1 October.

With 13 days to go, work began this morning at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys to remove the protective panels laid down for Post Malone’s concert on 12 September.

The Blaugrana are also reinstalling signage used last season around the stadium, as well as reopening the food and Barça merchandise outlets.

If there are no setbacks in the coming days, the pitch will be relaid so that it is in playable condition in time for Luis Enrique’s return to Barcelona with PSG.

In fact, Jijantes reports that the turf for the Montjuic Stadium is expected to arrive from Extremadura as early as today.

So, everything indicates that Barcelona will return to Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys on 1 October, for their first home game of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League.
