Preston North End are reportedly keen on Charlton Athletic winger Tyreece Campbell, who may be sold by the Addicks this summer.

After an eventful summer, it is set to be a busy final month of the transfer window for Preston North End.

Preston spent much of the first half of last season in and around the play-off places, but a disappointing run of form after the turn of the year saw them fall away from the top six, with Paul Heckingbottom's men eventually finishing 14th.

As they look to improve on last season's mid-table finish, Preston have made two permanent signings this summer, with goalkeeper Lee Nicholls arriving from Huddersfield Town and midfielder Alfie Devine completing a club record £6 million move from Tottenham Hotspur, while striker Jusef Erabi has joined on a season-long loan from Genk.

However, a number of senior names have departed Deepdale, including the likes of Jamal Lewis, Robbie Brady, Will Keane and Michael Smith, and captain Ben Whiteman is set to be the next high-profile name to head for the exit door.

After Heckingbottom revealed that Whiteman informed him he had played his last game for the club, Wrexham are set to step up their pursuit of the midfielder, with their bid of up to £2.5 million expected to be accepted by the Lilywhites.

As Preston prepare to lose their captain, it seems they may already be plotting how to use the funds from his sale, with the Lancashire outfit believed to be lining up a raid of one of their Championship rivals.

Preston have linked with a number of wingers this summer, including Oxford United's Stanley Mills and Crystal Palace's Romain Esse, but it appears they have now turned their attention to Charlton Athletic's Tyreece Campbell.

After coming through the Addicks' academy, Campbell has established himself as a key part of the senior squad at The Valley in recent years, and he was part of the team that won promotion from League One via the play-offs in the 2024-25 season.

Campbell has scored 18 goals and provided 13 assists in 170 games for Charlton so far, including netting three times and registering three assists in 46 appearances last season to help Nathan Jones' men avoid relegation from the Championship.

However, after the Addicks brought in two new left wingers this summer in Karlan Grant and Millenic Alli, Campbell's place in the starting line-up may be under threat this season, and it seems his future in south east London is now uncertain.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, Campbell is on Preston's list of targets as they look to bolster their thin squad before the end of the transfer window, and the 22-year-old could be "available at the right price" as Charlton weigh up whether to cash in on him.

With just under two weeks to go until the start of the new Championship season, there is still plenty of work for Preston to do in the transfer market.

After spending £6 million on Devine, it is unclear whether the Lilywhites will also be able to afford a deal for Mills, while Palace are said to be keen to sell Esse rather than sending him out on loan again, so Heckingbottom must look elsewhere in his search for new wide men.

Campbell is a player with a lot of potential, and he showed glimpses of his ability in the Championship last season with Charlton, but having failed to deliver consistently at The Valley, there are question marks over whether he would bring the attacking quality to Deepdale that Preston desperately need.
