Sporting CP host Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals at the Estádio José Alvalade, with the Gunners looking to turn their form around.
Mikel Arteta’s side head into the fixture on the back of a difficult spell, having been knocked out of the FA Cup and losing the EFL Cup final. However, they have an immediate opportunity to respond and make a statement in Lisbon.
Last time out in the Champions League, Arsenal overcame Bayer Leverkusen, with Eberechi Eze scoring the decisive goal in a 3–1 victory.
Despite their recent cup disappointments, Arsenal remain top of the Premier League, leaving plenty to play for in the final stretch of the season. However, this clash with Sporting could prove pivotal in shaping their European campaign.
Arteta’s side will be aiming to return to the Emirates with either a lead or, at the very least, a draw to keep themselves firmly in the tie.
Sporting, managed by Rui Borges, comes into the match in mixed form. They secured a win over Santa Clara in their last outing but sit five points behind league leaders FC Porto.
The Portuguese side showed their quality in the previous round, staging a remarkable comeback to overturn a 3–0 first-leg deficit against Bodø/Glimt, winning 5–0 in the second leg to progress in style.
Team news could prove crucial for Arsenal, with several players returning from international duty carrying knocks. Bukayo Saka and Jurriën Timber are set to miss out, though key players have been declared fit.
Kick-off is at 8pm, with the match live on Prime Video (UK).
