Brighton & Hove Albion host Newcastle at the Amex Stadium this Saturday as both sides look to climb the Premier League table.
The Seagulls sit 12th with nine points after a 1-1 draw with Wolves before the international hiatus, while the Magpies are 11th - on the same points - following a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest.
These two sides' last meeting ended 1-1, thanks to an 89th-minute penalty from Alexander Isak and another potentially tight clash is on the cards on the south coast this weekend.
Joe Sayers (Albion Obsessed): Well, another international break all done. It seriously feels like we’ve been watching England more than our clubs this season, but it was a welcome distraction after the Albion’s disappointing 1-1 draw with Wolves last time out.
That curse of failing to turn up against the clubs struggling at the bottom of the league remains, so I’m hopeful we can turn up against Newcastle and show a better account of ourselves.
We are yet to see a consistent 90 minute performance from the Albion so far this season, and it’ll be a tough ask to control the game from the off against Newcastle.
My better memories of playing them at the Amex go back to the 2023/24 season, when we saw red-hot Ferguson bag a hat trick against the Magpies.
We’re going to need the same again from someone else to really lift the momentum. We need to make a statement, saying we want Europe again is one thing, we need to see it on the pitch.
Prediction: 2-1
Daniel Oliveira (Playmaker Stats Editor): Newcastle have made a solid defensive start to the season, keeping five clean sheets in seven games, but scoring has been a real headache.
Just six goals from 80 shots shows the Magpies are creating chances, but struggling to finish, and that will need to improve if they’re to climb the table from 11th.
Eddie Howe’s side head into a tricky away fixture against Brighton, a team they’ve historically struggled against, having won only two of their last 16 top-flight meetings. While the defence has been dependable, Newcastle will need to find their cutting edge if they’re going to get a positive result and Howe will hope striker Nick Woltemade can build upon his promising start for the Magpies.
Prediction: 1-1
