Arsenal will look to finally end their long hunt for a Premier League title, having finished runners-up in each of the last three seasons. While competition is fierce with rivals strengthening, the Gunners have also bolstered their squad with six new signings who already seem to have clicked during pre-season.
Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martín Zubimendi, Christian Nørgaard, Noni Madueke and Cristhian Mosquera are the five signings who have added depth to this Arsenal side and made them a stronger unit.
Zubimendi, in particular, has flown under the radar but could prove to be one of the most important signings of the entire transfer window.
Needing a striker after last season’s struggles in front of goal, the North London side moved for a proven scorer in Viktor Gyökeres.
Difficult negotiations with Sporting meant the striker didn’t move immediately, but an agreement was finally reached just before the Newcastle game, where he was unveiled as a new Arsenal player.
He is a much-needed addition and should help ease the burden on Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, but the question remains: do Arsenal now have enough firepower?
That could be the deciding factor, as another attacking option may still be required if they are to finally get over the line. The left-hand side in particular has not been as sharp or effective as the right, leaving room for concern.
However, the players coming in will definitely boost a side that fell short again last season to Liverpool, but there were still loads of positives.
Mikel Arteta will need to deliver this season with a huge season ahead of the Gunners boss.
Five years since his last trophy, and after several close calls in the years since, Arteta will be hoping this is the season everything comes together.
It may have to be, as Gunners fans are beginning to wonder whether his window of opportunity at the club is starting to close.
However, the head coach has shown he can get results when it matters, but this season the team will need an extra gear to finally go all the way.
With a mix of pre-season preparation and a favorable set of fixtures to integrate his new players, Arteta will be keen to hit the ground running at Old Trafford.
Arsenal will also need to add a new dimension to their game, as other teams in the league have begun to figure out how to counter their style at certain points in matches.
If trophies don’t come this season, it could even mark the end of Arteta’s era at the club where it all began for him back in the COVID season.
Bukayo Saka will be the player to watch for the Gunners this season, as he looks to finally add more trophies to his cabinet.
After a difficult campaign last year, which saw him sidelined for much of the season through injury, the winger will be eager to prove he is still one of the best players in the league.
Arsenal will rely on him heavily, as he remains a key figure for both the club and the team. If Arteta can set the squad up to play to Saka’s strengths, it could be a glorious season for the England international.
Having a proven striker up front could also elevate Saka’s game, with the team having lacked a true number nine for the past two seasons.
If Saka can return to his best form, the Gunners will be firmly in the title race, with the chance to reach the levels of performance everyone knows he is capable of.
The signing to watch for this Gunners side is undoubtedly their new striker, Gyökeres, who could be the most important addition to the squad in some time.
Having scored 97 goals in 102 appearances for Sporting CP over the last two seasons, it’s easy to see why Arsenal invested significant time and resources in bringing their new number 9 to North London.
Gyökeres has already shown promise, finding the net in his first pre-season appearance at the Emirates.
That early goal should give him confidence as he looks to translate that prolific form into the Premier League – a challenge some fans and pundits have questioned he can meet.
However, the striker has the potential to be the player who pushes Arsenal over the line, helping them secure their 14th league title and their first since 2004.
It’s been far too long since the club last lifted the trophy, and with Gyökeres leading the line, the Gunners look set to be serious title contenders this season.
