Charlton Athletic and Swansea City to The Valley this Saturday for a key Championship clash.
The Addicks sit sixth with 19 points and will be keen to get back to winning ways after a 1-1 draw with Hull City. Nathan Jones’ side have made a solid start to the season and will see this as a chance to strengthen their push for the play-offs.
Swansea, meanwhile, return to league action after a midweek 3-1 League Cup defeat to Manchester City. Alan Sheehan’s team are 13th with 16 points and will be hoping to bounce back on the road and claw their way up the table.
The last meeting between the two ended in a narrow 1-0 win for the Swans, so Charlton will be motivated to reverse that result in front of their home supporters.
Stuart Court (Cafc Facts and Stats): Charlton back at the Valley after an excellent last week of results and with the news that Matt Godden could be back in the squad very soon will be looking forward to a game against a Solid Swansea side
Another 20 thousand crowd is expected so confidence is high amongst the Charlton crowd however the team will not be complacent especially under manager Jones
Prediction: 1-0
Luke Davies (Swans Cast): Swansea return to Championship action after their mid week defeat in the Carabao Cup to Manchester City where they put up a solid fight.
One positive from the game was the change of formation to a back five, wing back system, seemingly to pay dividends with a solid performance from many individuals and the team as a whole. Some of those who stood out being Kaelean Casey and Melker Widell, and as a result it would not surprise me to see a return of this tactic, with some rotation for those players to become involved.
This however will be a very tough test for Swansea. They put their all into Manchester City, and those who played 90 looked notably tired at the end of the match, Galbraith struggling to complete a successful pass at the end as his energy started to evade him. Having said that, it's hard to see him and Franco not starting in midfield giving the options available, and the quality they possess.
Charlton will be in Swansea's face from kick off, with Nathan Jones high intensity approach, and a tired Swansea could see this as a really tough test. Their 3-0 away win over Ipswich not long ago a stark indicator that they mean business in the league, many tipping Birmingham and Wrexham to be near the top of those who gained promotion from League One, but it is Charlton leading the way.
Hoping there is no League Cup hangover here, though I struggle to see that not being the case. Nathan Jones seems to have a good record playing Swansea, this will likely continue in my opinion.
