Not only is this a rematch of the 2011 MLS Cup Finals, but it is also a rematch of the 2012 championship, as well. The LA Galaxy will play their second game against a Texas-based opponent in less than ten days.

The Houston Dynamo will host the reigning MLS Cup winners on Friday night. The LA Galaxy are 3-3-2 in their last after going winless in their first 16 games to start the season.

Things got chippy between these two teams earlier in the season. After Ezequiel Ponce's score in the 14th minute, the LA Galaxy found themselves in familiar territory. They were down early in the first half, again.

To make matters worse, Mathias Jorgensen, better known as Zanka, was issued a red card in the 28th minute of play. That meant he was removed and the Los Angeles Galaxy had to play with just 10 players instead of 11.

On the historic day for midfielder Diego Fagundez, he became the hero during the second half. In the 57th minute, the Uruguay native tied it up with his 150th career goal in his 400th MLS game.

What to expect this time between the LA Galaxy and the Houston Dynamo?

In four games this month, veteran midfielder Marco Reus has recorded one goal and two assists during July. He has been responsible for more than ten goals (scored or assisted on) this year.

Reus is tied for the team lead in scoring with Gabriel Pec. Last year's Newcomer of the Year Award winner had his second multi-score game this season.

Ezequiel Ponce of the Houston Dynamo scored one of his seven goals against the 2024 MLS Cup Champions back in April against the LA Galaxy. Houston has not won in their past three games.

The Dynamo could field a recognizable former star in goal tonight. Jonathan Bond, the LA Galaxy's goalkeeper from 2021-2023, now plays for Houston. He could make it difficult for Reus, Pec and others to find the back of the net.

How to Watch the LA Galaxy vs. Houston Dynamo Game

This game is made available on MLS Season Pass. It is also obtainable on the Apple TV and Apple TV+ platforms.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. (PT) and 9:30 p.m. (CT) on Friday this weekend. The game will be played at Shell Energy Stadium.

Both teams are currently out of the playoff picture but could change that if either one pulls off the win. The LA Galaxy holds a 17-15-12 advantage all-time against the Houston Dynamo as the two soccer clubs each won once against each other last season.
