Newcastle welcome Bournemouth to St James’ Park in the third round of the FA Cup at 15:00 GMT on Saturday.

The Magpies enter the FA Cup in strong form, having won three consecutive Premier League matches with victories over Burnley, Crystal Palace, and Leeds United.

Eddie Howe has lost six of his last nine home matches in the FA Cup, with four of those defeats with his former club – and soon-to-be opponents – and two with Newcastle.

The last time the sides met at St James’ Park, the hosts suffered a 4-1 defeat to Bournemouth in the Premier League in January last year.

The sides have met twice in the FA Cup third round: in 1972–73, when the Magpies secured a 2–0 victory, and in 1991–92, when Bournemouth progressed after a replay.

Newcastle will be without Will Osuna (Ankle), Dan Burn (Bruised ribs) and Fabian Schär due to injuries.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth have won just once in their last five matches and enter the clash on the back of a 3–2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

It will be a tough test for them away from home as they have not been in the best form lately.

Bournemouth sit in the bottom half of the Premier League table in 15th place just 12 points from safety.

Their victory over Spurs was their only win from their previous 12 meetings against Premier League opposition.

The sides have met on 16 occasions, with Newcastle recording five wins, Bournemouth four, and seven matches ending in draws.

They will be without Justin Kluivert (knee), Tyler Adams (knee), and Ben Doak (hamstring) through injury, while Ryan Christie remains a doubt.

The match will kick off at 3pm and will not be shown live on television, but supporters can watch highlights later in the evening on Match of the Day.
