PREVIEW: Scotland look to continue perfect start against Morocco

Following an intriguing 1-1 draw with Brazil in their opening game, Morocco will now take on Scotland as they look to pick up their first win of the 2026 World Cup.

Despite winning their opener, 1-0 against Haiti, the Tartan Army will feel as though their side need to drastically improve their performance if they are to overcome the AFCON Champions. It was Aston Villa’s John McGinn who netted the only goal in the game against Haiti, and you feel as though he’ll be central to anything Scotland do against both Morocco and Brazil in their remaining group stage games.

Mohamed Ouahbi’s Morocco side were on top for large parts against Brazil, and took the leasd after 21 minutes through PSV forward Ismael Saibari’s clever finish. However, they were pegged back by Vinicius Junior just 11 minutes later, and the points were shared.

Coincidentally, the last meeting between the two sides came in the group stage of the 1998 World Cup in France. Morocco picked up a 3-0 win that day, and Scotland had not appeared at the World Cup since, until this year.

Scotland boss Steve Clarke has said his training session was “electric” yesterday ahead of today’s crucial clash. The players feel good about themselves. They wanted to win a game at a major tournament, and they’ve done that. Now we want to do the next step, which is to get what we need from the next two games to make a little bit of history for Scotland.

“Training was electric, and yeah, we feel good.”

The win over Haiti marked Scotland’s first win at a major tournament since 1996, when they defeated Switzerland 1-0 in Birmingham thanks to a winner from Ally McCoist.

The game will get underway at 11pm BST and 6pm local time in Boston, where the game is taking place.
