England and Andorra go head-to-head this Saturday at 17:00 in Group K of Uefa's World Cup qualifying campaign, with the Three Lions heading the group and their opponents rooted at the bottom of the table.
Despite their unbeaten record in qualifying under Thomas Tuchel, England will be eager to respond to their 3-1 setback against Senegal in their last friendly. On paper, a home clash with struggling Andorra looks like the perfect chance to get back on track - but not if the hosts turn in a display resembling their underwhelming 1-0 away win over the same opposition back in June. Tuchel's charm offensive since succeeding Gareth Southgate now needs performances to back it up, and he will hope the Three Lions can inject some energy and momentum into his tenure with a goal fest at Wembley. Qualification remains a mathematical possibility for Koldo Álvarez’s men, who sit five points adrift of Albania in the playoff place. But even the most optimistic Andorran will know that a dramatic turnaround is highly unlikely as autumn draws in.
History offers little encouragement either. Andorra have lost all seven of their previous encounters with England, conceding 26 goals without reply. Still, their narrow 1-0 defeat in June was a small step forward, marking the first time they had avoided conceding multiple goals against the Euro 2024 runners-up.
