Real Madrid had spent most of their summer transfer window placing emphasis on defensive reinforcements and not making any moves in attack.

Yesterday, however, Los Blancos leapfrogged PSG and reportedly reached an agreement with RB Leipzig to sign Yan Diomande for a huge fee.

The Ivory Coast international is widely regarded as one of the biggest talents in the world, and he is set to join the biggest club in the world.

Real Madrid’s pursuit of Diomande has sparked a pointed response from PSG, with the French champions explaining why they refused to match the financial demands involved in the deal.

In an unofficial statement issued via L’Equipe, PSG dismissed suggestions that they were willing to enter a bidding war for the highly rated youngster after Real Madrid moved into pole position.

In a strongly worded statement, PSG said: “They were asking for crazy money for a player who has potential but was playing in the Spanish second division one year ago. We won’t break the bank because a club arrived with fireworks.”

PSG then concluded with a pointed remark aimed directly at Real Madrid.

“This shows where Real Madrid are right now.”

Real Madrid have PSG rattled

The comments underline PSG’s frustration after missing out on one of Europe’s most promising young talents.

Real Madrid, however, have shown repeatedly in recent years that they are prepared to invest heavily when they identify a player they believe can become part of the club’s long-term core.

If Los Blancos are convinced Diomande fits that profile, criticism from a rival is unlikely to alter their strategy.

PSG have had their own share of dubious decision-making in the past, and it is quite baffling to see them throw shade because they missed out on an incredible talent.
