Paris Saint-Germain retained the UEFA Super Cup with a narrow 2-1 victory over Aston Villa in Salzburg, securing the trophy for a second consecutive year.

Villa started brightly and created several chances, but PSG took the lead in the 20th minute when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia fired a powerful effort past Marco Bizot.

Villa responded well, with teenage striker Brian Madjo causing problems for the PSG defence.

The 17-year-old eventually got his reward just before half-time, volleying home John McGinn’s cross to become the youngest scorer in Super Cup history.

It was a memorable moment for Madjo, who had only recently been cleared to make his competitive debut following an eight-month registration dispute with Fifa.

PSG regained control after the break and restored their lead in the 61st minute. Désiré Doué ran onto Ousmane Dembélé’s pass before calmly finishing beyond Bizot.

The goal was initially ruled out for offside, but VAR overturned the decision.

Villa continued to push for an equaliser and created opportunities late on, but PSG held firm. Despite an impressive performance, Unai Emery’s side fell just short, leaving the French champions to celebrate another European trophy.
