France are coming under fire from Paris Saint-Germain for their management of Ousmane Dembélé (28). The winger came on at half-time during the 2-0 win over Ukraine on Friday night, however, he lasted less than 35 minutes before being forced off with a hamstring injury.

Dembélé suffered an injury to his left thigh during the 6-3 win over Toulouse FC the following weekend. As a result, he didn’t start on Friday night, however, following a calf injury to PSG teammate Désiré Doué, the former Barcelona winger was brought on.

Didier Deschamps defended the decision to do so post-match. “I was sure [that he could play], otherwise I wouldn’t have brought him on. It was the other thigh as well,” justified the France manager. The injury came when Dembélé looked to accelerate past the Ukraine back line, but it became immediately apparent that he had sustained an injury and would not be able to continue.

L’Équipe understands that PSG are “furious” with France – and Deschamps – regarding their management of Dembélé. PSG’s medical staff believe that they had already warned Les Bleus’ medical staff that the winger was not in a fit condition to play, even before the international break.

Dembélé is set to undergo an MRI to ascertain the severity of the injury, but Deschamps has already stated that the winger’s international break is almost certainly over.
