Real Madrid have been one of the busiest clubs in the market so far this summer, having already closed four signings, with a fifth one on the horizon.

Indeed, Yan Diomande is expected to join from RB Leipzig imminently, following the arrivals of Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konate, Bernardo Silva, and Denzel Dumfries.

At the same time, work is being done to sign Rodri from Manchester City. But in recent days, it has been suggested that PSG have also entered the race for the World Cup winner.

Indeed, the French champions are reportedly attempting to retaliate to Real Madrid’s signing of Diomande from under their noses with a move for Los Blancos’ priority midfield target.

PSG uninterested in Rodri

However, according to MARCA, the Manchester City midfielder has never been a transfer target for PSG.

Neither club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, sporting director Luis Campos nor head coach Luis Enrique have considered pursuing the Spain international.

PSG believe they already possess the strongest midfield unit in European football.

Within the club, Vitinha is regarded as the best player in Rodri’s position, while Luis Enrique also has complete confidence in Joao Neves, Fabian Ruiz and Warren Zaire-Emery.

All three midfielders are viewed as having taken significant steps forward over the past two seasons. Zaïie-Emery also featured at the recent World Cup, although he was not a regular starter for France under Didier Deschamps.

With those options already available, PSG see no need to strengthen the centre of midfield.

No plans to retaliate

As per the report, the French champions also insist they have no intention of attempting to disrupt any of Real Madrid’s transfer plans, despite missing out on Yan Diomande.

The Ivory Coast winger is expected to complete his move to the Spanish capital club this week after they reached agreements with both the player and RB Leipzig.

PSG withdrew from negotiations because of the high transfer fee and the player’s salary demands.

Instead, the club have shifted their attention to alternative attacking targets, with Barcelona forward Ferran Torres among the names under consideration as they look to reinforce other areas of Luis Enrique’s squad.

This should clear the path for Real Madrid to move ahead and close the signing of Rodri, who is keen on a switch to the Santiago Bernabeu.
