Champions League winners PSG take on Europa League holders Tottenham Hotspur for tonight’s UEFA Super Cup tie. The game will be played in Udine’s Stadio Friuli. Luis Enrique’s Les Parisiens will try to clinch a fifth trophy this year after winning the Trophée des Champions, the Coupe de France, Ligue 1 and, of course, the Champions League. Only the Club World Cup has eluded PSG’s grasp this year.
During the competition’s final against Chelsea, Portuguese midfielder João Neves was sent off for pulling Marc Cucurella’s hair. The former SL Benfica Academy product has been handed a two-game suspension and will therefore miss tonight’s outing against Thomas Frank’s Spurs. He is expected to be replaced in Luis Enrique’s three-man midfield by Warren Zaïre-Emery.
Much of the focus tonight will be on France international goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier as PSG embark on the post-Donnarumma era, despite the Italian’s heroics during PSG’s run to their maiden Champions League title. The Euro 2020 winner has been omitted from the squad that flew to Udine and has announced he would be leaving Paris amid interest from Manchester City.
