Paris Saint-Germain are stepping up their pursuit of FC Barcelona star Ferran Torres and are growing increasingly confident they can complete the transfer.

After opening talks with the Spanish forward during the World Cup, discussions have continued in recent weeks, and the French champions now want to accelerate negotiations.

According to journalist Matteo Moretto (h/t SPORT), PSG’s plan is to begin formal club-to-club talks with Barcelona immediately, with the goal of finalizing a deal before Ferran is due back for pre-season on August 12.

PSG want to avoid Ferran’s return to Barcelona

The European champions believe completing the transfer before Ferran rejoins Hansi Flick’s squad would simplify negotiations and avoid any complications that could arise once he is back training with Barcelona.

PSG are not rushing because of competition from other clubs, despite reported Premier League interest. Instead, they want to prevent the player from facing additional pressure once he returns to the club.

Ferran has already received PSG’s financial proposal and is expected to make a decision in the coming days. The French side believe a breakthrough could arrive soon.

Barcelona still waiting for official contact

Despite the growing speculation, Barcelona have yet to receive any formal approach from PSG. There has also been no official communication from Ferran’s representatives informing the club of his intentions.

At this stage, the Blaugrana have learned about the situation primarily through media reports, something that has caused frustration internally.

Club officials are seeking clarity and want PSG to submit a concrete offer if they are serious about signing the Spanish international.

According to the report, there are now increasing voices within Barcelona who believe selling Ferran could be the best solution.

Renewal offer still planned

Ferran is currently in the United States fulfilling promotional commitments and is expected to make his decision after returning to Spain.

Regardless of PSG’s interest, Barcelona intend to follow their own plan which is to present the forward with a contract extension beginning in September, keeping his current salary unchanged.

If Ferran accepts, he will remain at the club. If he declines, Barcelona will actively look to sell him before his contract expires.

Barcelona’s asking price

No transfer fee has been discussed yet because Ferran has not given PSG his final approval to proceed with the move.

Barcelona’s valuation, however, is already clear. The club will seek at least €55 million, matching the amount they originally paid Manchester City to sign the forward in 2022.

With only one year remaining on his contract, Barcelona recognise the situation is delicate, but they believe proven forwards continue to command significant fees in the current transfer market.
