PSG have completed the signing of Pedro Fernández Sarmiento, known as Dro, in a deal worth just over eight million euros. According to Superdeporte, the club chose negotiation rather than triggering his six million release clause.
The 18-year-old Galician midfielder of Filipino heritage arrived in Paris on Sunday, underwent his medical on Monday, and the move was announced on Tuesday. He has signed through 2030 and will earn a higher salary in the French capital.
Strong relations between Joan Laporta and Nasser Al Khelaifi smoothed the exit, avoiding taxes for PSG and the player, who would otherwise have had to deposit the clause. Barcelona receive slightly more in return.
Dro hopes to play more than he managed at Barcelona. He is represented by Iván de la Peña, a close friend of Luis Enrique, and their Roma connection was decisive in the move.
Hansi Flick and Barcelona’s sporting leadership had high hopes for the midfielder and were angered by his decision. Laporta voiced disappointment on Catalunya Ràdio, while Flick said players must be fully committed and that adults make their own choices.
He jumped from Juvenil B straight to the first team, scoring on debut against Vissel Kobe on the summer tour in Asia. He played 148 minutes across five games, four in La Liga and one in the Champions League, missed the Copa tie at Guadalajara and the Supercopa, and after the return from Saudi Arabia told the club he wanted to leave without naming the destination.
