PSV Eindhoven have been crowned Eredivisie champions for a third consecutive season, sealing their 27th league title after Feyenoord were held to a 0–0 draw by FC Volendam on Sunday.
The result in Volendam confirmed what has long felt inevitable.
With a 17-point lead at the summit, Peter Bosz’s PSV wrap up the title with five matches still to play — the earliest championship triumph in Dutch top-flight history, surpassing PSV’s own record set in 1978.
It caps a dominant campaign for the Eindhoven club, who underlined their credentials with a thrilling 4–3 victory over FC Utrecht on Saturday.
Utrecht scored twice within the opening 15 minutes, but a remarkable second-half performance secured a result that left PSV on the brink before Feyenoord’s stumble confirmed the inevitable.
Inevitable
PSV’s march to the title has been built on relentless consistency. After a steady start that included an early setback against Telstar and a draw with AFC Ajax, Bosz’s side quickly found their rhythm.
From late September to mid-January, PSV embarked on a remarkable 13-game winning streak, part of a wider run that saw them win 15 of their first 17 matches.
That surge opened up a double-digit lead by the halfway stage of the campaign, effectively breaking the back of the title race before spring.
A 3–0 win over Feyenoord in February proved another defining moment, extinguishing any realistic hopes of a comeback from their closest challengers. While late defeats to NEC Nijmegen and Telstar added a minor blemish, they did little to disrupt PSV’s charge toward the title.
Feyenoord falter as PSV seize moment
Even as PSV stumbled briefly, Feyenoord were unable to capitalise. Now managed by Robin van Persie, the Rotterdam side needed a win in Volendam to delay the title celebrations.
Instead, they produced a frustrating display, dominating possession but failing to find a breakthrough. The goalless draw handed PSV the title.
A new PSV dynasty under Bosz
This latest triumph marks PSV’s third successive Eredivisie title — their first such streak since the late 2000s and a feat not achieved in the Netherlands since Ajax’s run between 2019 and 2022 under Erik ten Hag.
PSV’s dominance echoes previous golden eras.
The club famously won four consecutive titles between 1986 and 1989 under Guus Hiddink, shortly after their European Cup triumph, and repeated the feat between 2005 and 2008.
Bosz has now etched his own name into that lineage, delivering a modern dynasty built on attacking football and squad depth.
The bigger picture
The title also secures PSV automatic entry into next season’s UEFA Champions League league phase, despite a relatively underwhelming European campaign this year.
For their rivals, the gap is stark.
Ajax, once the dominant force in Dutch football, languish in fifth and have now gone four years without lifting the Eredivisie trophy, while Feyenoord — champions as recently as 2023 under Arne Slot — must regroup after falling well short.
PSV’s 27th title narrows the historical gap on Ajax’s record haul of 36 championships, reinforcing their status as the Netherlands’ pre-eminent force in the current era.
With five games still to play, the question is no longer whether PSV are champions — but how far this team can go in defining an era of sustained domestic dominance.
