FC Barcelona is home to several of the world’s best players and it has always been like that. After all, by combining home grown talents with proven superstars, the club creates a rather positive and nurturing environment. Coupled with the competitive nature of the club, Barcelona establishes a great platform for development.

After a season like the one that Barcelona had, moreover, praise for those players is bound to reach new heights. Players like Pedri are already inviting a lot of praise, with teammates such as Wojciech Szczesny and even Real Madrid legend Toni Kroos sending some huge compliments his way.

Yet, it was the performance of the now 18-year-old Lamine Yamal throughout the season that dazzled everyone. In fact, his performances throughout the campaign have led him to become a top contender for this year’s Ballon d’Or award and invite some generous praise as well.

However, following the recent FIFA Club World Cup final in which Chelsea and especially Cole Palmer thrashed Paris Saint-Germain to win the title, many believe that the English star should be one of the frontrunners for this year’s Ballon d’Or. Yet, a certain English pundit does not seem to agree and has his own list of the world’s ten best players.

Pundit does not have Palmer in his top ten

According to talkSPORT host Darren Bent, as quoted by the same website, Palmer’s recent Golden Ball-winning campaign in the FIFA Club World Cup is leading to reactionary statements and takes, and that the player barely misses out on who he thinks the real top ten players in the world are:

“He is top top quality, but he’s not in my top ten.”

Instead, his list includes many other top players who have had fantastic seasons as well. The likes of Harry Kane, Ousmane Dembele, Kylian Mbappe, Mohamed Salah, and a few others were present in the pundit’s top ten list.

Two Barcelona players manage to stand out

Interestingly, he did not forget to mention Raphinha, who was included in his list and he claimed that the Barcelona star is someone who often does not get appreciated as much as he should:

“Raphinha – he is unbelievable. He doesn’t get enough love. His rise has been incredible, sensational.”

However, the top spot on his list was taken by another Barcelona player, and that was none other than Lamine Yamal:

“Number one – Lamine Yamal. He’s the best player in the world at the moment – playing with no fear, playing with freedom, doing what he wants at the age of 17.”

For the pundit, Yamal remains the best football player in the world and many others across the world seem to agree with him. However, whether or not he ends up winning the Ballon d’Or is one thing, but there is another huge responsibility headed his way that even legends believe he has the personality for.
