Isaac Schmidt has left Leeds United for BSC Young Boys on a four-year deal, ending a two-year Elland Road stay. The Swiss international marked his exit with a heartfelt farewell.
The fee was officially undisclosed, but according to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk it is understood to be £two million, said to avoid a loss against book value.
Schmidt made 14 appearances during the 2024/25 Championship title-winning season, including two FA Cup starts, with 12 league outings from the bench. Last summer he joined Werder Bremen on loan, with Premier League minutes viewed as unlikely.
He was at Elland Road when automatic promotion was clinched and joined the open-top bus parade through the city centre. In his Instagram message he spoke of pure emotions, praised team spirit and the fans, and wished the club well, signing off with MOT.
Largie Ramazani wrote 'Best of luck my brother' and Willy Gnonto added 'My Guy'. Summer 2025 arrival Anton Stach, who only shared pre-season minutes with Schmidt, posted 'Good luck Brudi', while Joel Piroe replied 'Good luck brother'. Illan Meslier and Mateo Joseph also commented, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Harry Gray among those to like the post.
Schmidt will now link up with Young Boys for pre-season. He became Leeds' fourth summer exit, following free agents Karl Darlow and Meslier, plus Pascal Struijk's £20m move to Brighton. One addition, Harry Wilson, is confirmed, with centre-back Tarik Muharemovic expected to follow.
